Funding and Donations
The Grayson Volunteer Fire Department is established under the Municipal Charter of the City of Grayson, Kentucky. The department is registered as a "Non-Profit Government Entity" under the tax code 501 (c) (3). Donations of monetary value are "fully" tax deductible.
Financial support of the department is mostly derived from
budgeted dollars through the city general fund. These "budgeted" funds cover the
general operations of the department such as vehicle and property insurance,
fuel for vehicles, utilities, vehicle payments, general maintenance, firefighter
expenses, training, etc. The department usually receives a small "support-type"
grant for new equipment from the Carter County Fiscal Court on an annual basis.
The amount of these funds is typically dependent upon the fiscal soundness of
the fiscal court and the amount of money received by the court for Coal
Severance Taxes. No member of the fire department receives a salary or wage for
their time or services. The department staff is FULLY volunteer.
An approximate, estimated breakdown of the 2007 Fiscal year Grayson city budget is:
55% to Police, 19% for Administration, 16% for streets/public works and 10% to fire department.
Donations are accepted and much appreciated. Your tax deductible donations go to support training and safety for your firefighters. Donations are made payable to: Grayson Volunteer Fire Department, 301 E Third Street, Grayson, KY 41143.
Your firefighters appreciate your support.
