HISTORY
It is believed that the Grayson Fire Department was officially organized and established by the city council in 1933. It is unclear as to the accuracy of this date, do to a devastating suspicious fire in February 1979 that gutted city hall and destroyed vital city documents and records that accurately depict the organization of our department. It is difficult to imagine that our city was not served by an organized fire fighting force, until the mid-20th century, since most of our surrounding communities, such as the City if Olive Hill, had documented organized fire departments as early as 1880. The Cities of Ashland and Maysville had paid fire departments before 1900.
Any information, photos or other documentation disputing the 1933 date, would be cordially invited by calling the fire department administrative line at 606-474-5444 or by contacting our webmaster at webmaster@firedepartment.graysonkentucky.com . Please help us determine our history and place in the growth of our city.
