Welcome to the Grayson Kentucky Fire Department website. We hope that your visit here will be informative and interesting.

Grayson Kentucky is located in the northeastern part of the state on Interstate 64 about 25 miles south and west of the Ohio and West Virginia borders. Dubbed the "The Heart of the Parks", Grayson is geographically located in the center of a quadrangle formed by four of the Commonwealth's most beautiful state parks.

The Grayson Kentucky Fire Department was established as a volunteer department in 1933 and remains fully volunteer. Though membership fluctuates from time to time, we currently have members that have been with the department for over 30 years. The department's district covers approximately 90 square miles of suburban and rural areas surrounding the city limits of Grayson, as well as mutual aid with neighboring communities. The department currently has 6 Officers, 18 Firefighters and 2 Cadets operating six apparatus out of one station located at the corner of 3rd Street and Carol Malone Blvd.

The City of Grayson has a split ISO (Insurance Service Organization) Public Protection Classification rating (PPC) of 6/9. This rating has provided significant property insurance cost savings to home and business owners in and around Grayson. The split rating indicates that all properties inside the city limits and all areas outside the city, but within 5 miles of the fire station and have a fire plug within 1000 ft of the structure, receive a Class 6 rating. All other areas in the Grayson Fire Department response area receive a Class 9 rating. Class ratings fall in scale between 1 and 10, with a 10 being no recognized fire protection.

In 2005 the Grayson Fire Department answered on average, one call for assistance every day of the year. As of December 31 2006, the department answered 438 calls, for an average of 1.2 calls per day. This was an increase of over 60 calls for the year, a 13 percent increase. Grayson Fire Department calls for assistance may be to extinguish a structure on fire or can be as mild as helping rescue an animal caught in a storm drain or as heart wrenching as extricating a person from a motor vehicle at a fatality accident. We strive to provide consistent and effective services to the City of Grayson and to our Carter County Response Area.

We'd like to thank all the people who have helped with financial and other support during the past. Though we are supported by the city of Grayson and financial gifts of local patrons, our biggest contributions come from the men and women who volunteer their time and expertise to serve the community and are willing to risk their life for their neighbor. We look forward to our service in the community for 2007 and we ask that you THINK SAFETY. If we meet in the coming year let it be at our Memory Days BBQ, Golf Tournament, Carter County Fair, Summer Bash or other social event and not because you're in need of our assistance. Though if you do call, rest assured we'll give our best.

Thanks again and we hope you enjoy our website.....
